Looking for May wedding flowers? We’ve put together a handy list of what tends to be in season during this time. However, availability is dependent on a lot of factors, including the weather, so we can’t make any guarantees.
SO, WHAT’S IN SEASON DURING MAY?
Our top wedding flower pick for May is Decorative Kale. Yes, you heard me, Kale. But don’t worry – we’re not going to send you down the aisle holding a salad. Also known as kale flowers, or ornamental kale, decorative kale is a bit of a winter favourite of ours. Ranging in colour from pale pink to bright purple, it’s a great way to add a unique pop of colour to your wedding flowers. Kale flowers tend to bloom large, much like Hydrangea or Peonies, making them a great focal flower. Check out some examples on our Instagram (1, 2, 3).
Our next pick for May is Cymbidium Orchids. Also known as boat orchids, Cymbidiums range in colour from bright tropical yellows and greens, to deep burgundys and browns. This vast color range makes it easy to incorporate them into your wedding flowers, no matter your colour palette. In the past we’ve paired burnt orange orchids with coral roses and pincushion protea, for a warm, almost boho feel. For a more classic, romantic style, choose white orchids, as well as pale green ranunculus, soft pink roses, and white lilies. Cymbidium orchids are also available in miniature. While the colour range is a bit more limited, the smaller size makes them perfect for boutonnieres and corsages.
Our final pick for May is Freesia. Freesia is a popular choice for wedding flowers, due to it’s wide colour range, beautiful fragrance, and delicate shape. Each stem contains three to five funnel-shaped blooms, usually topped off with several buds. It’s a great way to add texture to any floral arrangement.
